LEVELLAND, Texas – The Hutchinson Community College women’s track and field team had four qualifiers for the 2021 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. All four qualifiers competed on Day 1 Tuesday.
The Blue Dragons one-day appearance netted three NJCAA All-Americas, however.
Kiana Brown earned second-team NJCAA All-America honors, while Violet Martinez and Patrisha Doll earned third-team honors while scoring eight team points for the Blue Dragons on Day 1 at the South Plains College Track Stadium.
Both Brown and Martinez were Coaches’ White Card entries for head coach Robert Spies. Both Blue Dragon pole vaulters reached the medal stand.
Brown set a PR with a clearance of 10-feet, 6 inches on Tuesday. Brown tied for third with Mesa Community College vaulters Jamie Tinney and Jolynn Flemming.
Martinez placed sixth in the pole vault after clearing 10 feet.
Brown and Martinez are the first Blue Dragons to earn All-America honors in the event since Summer Casey placed fifth in 2019. The Blue Dragons now have nine All-Americans in the women’s pole vault.
Doll entered the national championship ranked third in the NJCAA. Her throw of 119 feet, 11 inches earned her a sixth-place finish on Tuesday. Doll is the 23rd Blue Dragon to earn All-America honors in the women’s javelin, the first since Katy Commons in 2019.
Sophomore Kiley Aldridge closed out her Blue Dragon career with a 14th-place showing in the women’s hammer throw on Tuesday. Aldridge fouled on her first two attempts before throwing 123-11 on her final attempt. Aldridge was ranked 10th in the NJCAA entering the national championships.
