BUHLER, Kan. - Mother Nature got her way throughout the whole weekend at both McPherson and Wheatland Park in Buhler as the Bob Hooper Showcase which hosted 16 teams from all across Kansas.
After several rain delays in pool play on Friday and bracket play Saturday, the skies opened again as strong storms rolled through south central Kansas late on Sunday including lots of wind causing structural damage in Great Bend. Heavy rain moved into the Hutchinson area early evening and cancelled the finals at Wheatland Park in Buhler.
The Hutchinson Colts and the Buhler Senior National team both participated as the local entries with the Colts going 1-3 over the weekend. The Colts picked up a win over Kingman, but dropped games to Great Bend, Newton and Fort Scott.
The Buhler Senior Nationals had advanced to the winners final and were scheduled to take on the Hays Eagles late Sunday in the Championship game before the skys opened up an canceled the late night game.
Buhler, the #3 seed in Saturday's bracket play, was 3-0 with wins over Emporia, Marion County and the KC Aces.
The Hays Eagles, also 3-0 had earned the #1 seed in bracket play and are undefeated on the summer season. The Eagles edged the Hutchinson Colts 4-3 in pool play on Friday.
Buhler got a huge win of the #2 bracket seeded KC Aces team 7-6 to advance the Nationals into the finals versus Hays.
