WICHITA, Kan. — The Catholic Diocese of Wichita has decided to allow athletes at its schools to compete interscholastically this fall. This includes Hutchinson Trinity, Kapaun Mt. Carmel and Bishop Carroll High School, among others.
In a letter from superintendent Janet Eaton, she outlined several mitigating measures the schools plan to take.
Competitions will be conducted with opponents who meet safety standards.
No buses will be used to transport athletes. Parents will be asked to transport their athlete.
Each athlete will be allocated two spectator tickets. The tickets will be purchased online. The spectators must be adults.
Masks, temperature checks and social distancing will be expected for all spectators.
The marching band will perform at halftime on the field during home football games. The band will not play from the bleachers.
Cheer and pom squads will perform at home games.
Cheerleaders will be limited to 16 athletes.
There will be no tailgating at competitions.
Concessions will be limited to drinks only.
The standards will be monitored as the season goes along and those are the minimums allowed for the Catholic schools to compete.
