HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The fundraisers for the Jones family of Nickerson who were victims of an accident in Louisville, Kentucky this summer continue.
The girls basketball team at Nickerson is doing a fundraiser for the Jones family, selling T-Shirts online through Fincher's Findings. The T-Shirts are $10 and will be available for pickup approximately two weeks after the order deadline on Nov. 14.
The team will wear them for their first home game. Ava Jones is a senior at Nickerson High and she and her family were in Kentucky for an AAU basketball tournament she was playing in when 33-year-old Michael Hurley missed a turn and hit the family on the sidewalk. He told police at the time he had taken hydrocodone.
Trey Jones died a few days after the accident at the hospital. Amy and Ava Jones are still dealing with both the injuries and the medical costs associated with a lengthy hospital stay for each of them.
Hurley was already on probation for drug possession and drug use in Indiana at the time of the crash. He has pled not guilty.
