WICHITA, Kan. - Behind two home runs and five RBIs from Clayton Chadwick, the Hutchinson, KS Monarchs defeated the Hays, KS Larks 11-3 by run-rule in the 2020 NBC World Series powered by Evergy on Friday night at Eck Stadium.

Chadwick (Sam Houston State) tied the single season record for home runs in Monarchs program history, bringing his total to nine in 2020. Jake Hamilton earned the win for Hutchinson with three strikeouts in five innings while Ryan Ruder came up with four strikeouts in four innings pitched for Liberal.

The Larks jumped on the board in the top of the first inning, with Corbin Truslow coming up with a two-run home run to put the Larks on top first. After Chadwick’s first home run in the bottom of the third inning, the Monarchs used a seven-run bottom of the fifth inning to open the gap.

A fielder’s choice and bases loaded walk scored two runs before loading the bases, with Chadwick capitalizing with his second grand slam of the summer season and third home run of the NBC World Series to put the Monarchs ahead 8-2. Following an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Monarchs finished off the job with another RBI single and a double stolen base in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Monarchs face the Houston, TX Express on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at Eck Stadium in Wichita.
