🏌️‍♂️Blue Dragons win National Preview; Partridge claims individual crown

LUBBOCK, Texas – The numbers weren't as eye-popping as Monday's were, but the GolfStat No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team broke more records on Tuesday in the final round of the NJCAA National Preview.

+ The Blue Dragons won the team title with a 54-hole scoring record of 828. That 36-under-par score shattered the old team record by 19 strokes, which was set two weeks ago at Walking Stick Country Club in Pueblo, Colorado.

+ Freshman Ben Partridge won the individual championship with a Blue Dragon individual scoring record for 54 holes at 13-under-par 203.

+ Hutchinson's 45-stroke margin of victory was the largest winning margin in program history.

+ Partridge, Charlie CrockettHarry Crockett and Cameron Rios-Ceballos all set career 54-hole low scores.

All of those marks were set up by Monday's historical day at The Rawls Course, site of the 2021 NJCAA Men's Division I Golf Championships.

Twice on Monday Hutchinson broke 18-hole scoring records with rounds of 275 and 270 and established a new 36-hole record of 545 (-36). All five golfers and individual player Charlie Hilton broke or tied career-low single rounds, including Charlie Crockett's 64, the second-lowest score in team history.

The Blue Dragons closed out the National Preview with a 5-under-par team round of 283 on Tuesday. Team runner-up Odessa College had the next best round of the day at 292.

Hutchinson counted scores of 68 from Partridge, 69 from Harry Crockett and a pair of 73s from Charlie Crockett and Trey McCrae.

Hutchinson finished at 828, followed by Odessa at 873. Jayhawk Conference rivals Dodge City finished fifth at 898 after a 299 on Tuesday and Garden City shot 303 and placed seventh at 899.

Partridge earned his first career individual collegiate championship, rallying from two strokes down to start the day, which was delayed by about 90 minutes because of heavy fog. Partridge posted a 4-under 68 to rally and take the title with a school-record 13-under-par score of 203.

There were four Blue Dragons in the Top 6 of the individual standings and all seven Hutch golfers placed in the Top 21.

Charlie Crockett was second after a 73 on Tuesday. He finished with a career-low 54-hole total of 206 (-10). Harry Crockett was third at 210, also a 54-hole career low. McCrae finished in a three-way tie for fourth at 313 (-3). Rios-Ceballos had a 75 on Tuesday and finished tied for 12th at 219 (+3).

Sophomore Tyler Trudo joined in the record-fest on Tuesday when he posted his best single round in his Blue Dragon career with a 2-under 70. Trudo tied for 15th at 220.

Freshman Charlie Hilton carded a 77 in the final round and tied for 21st with a score of 223.

The Blue Dragons will close out the 2020 fall season at the Ryan Palmer Classic in Lubbock, Texas on October 26-27.
