HUTCHINSON, Kan. — As part of American Education Week, Hutchinson USD 308 brought some students from Hutchinson Community College over to Graber Elementary as part of their Educator for a Day this year.
"We had six students from HutchCC come over and tour Graber," said spokesperson Stacy Goss. They got a tour of the school. They met with the Mini Sweet Treat, which is just about to kick off at Graber."
Goss said she was impressed with the questions the college students asked the elementary kids.
"Those handful of students, I think there was about 15 students who participate, they give up their PE time or their recess time to participate in the Mini Sweet Treat and they're sitting there doing business plans," Goss said. "It's not like they're giving it up for something you would think is like really fun, but it's something that has piqued their interest and they're so excited about it."
USD 308 Superintendent Dr. Dawn Johnson said one of the goals is to see those local students finish and come teach in Hutchinson Public Schools.
"Whether they start with us as a student teacher or a paraeducator and go on, we do really want to work with them and our human resource department and through Stacy and through me to say that this is the best place that you could work in the state of Kansas," Johnson said. "We want you to come back."
