CHENEY, Kan. - The Hutchinson Monarchs (24-5) twelve game winning streak was snapped Wednesday night by the Cheney Diamond Dawgs 6-4 in Cheney. The loss puts the Monarchs one game back in the Sunflower League race behind Cheney.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Cheney finally pushed a run across to take a 1-0 lead. After that it was back and forth scoring with the Monarchs tying the game in the seventh inning when Garrett Stephens and Clayton Chadwick both homered to tie the game at 3-3.
The Diamond Dawgs answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead 4-3 plus 2 more runs in the eighth to finish their scoring. Hutchinson produced a run in the top of the ninth when Chadwick singled to score Luke Sartori to make the final score 6-4. Chadwick was 3 for 4 on the night with an RBI and scored a run.
Cheney's Rowan Arrant earned the win in relief while Caden Pogue to the loss for the Monarchs.
Same two teams tonight at the final game of the four game series returns to Hobart-Field in Hutchinson. Game time 7 pm as the game will be video streamed on hutchpost.com.
