HUTCHINSON, Kan. - The Hutchinson Monarchs (22-4) bats exploded for 10 runs in the first inning including Austin Callahan's 3rd home run of the series to take the four game series from the Mulvane Patriots 16-1 on Cancer Council of Reno County night Saturday night at Hobart-Detter field on Saturday night.
Callahan had a monster night at the plate going 3 for 3, scoring 2 runs and had 5 RBI's.
Mikel Howell got the win for the Monarchs going 6 full innings only scattering 6 hits and giving up 1 run on the night. Josh Fortenberry came on in the 7th to close it out with 3 up, 3 down for the Patriots.
Hutchinson pounded out 15 hits on the night again aided by the big 1st inning for Hutch. The Monarchs have won now 10 in a row, tying the record set by the 2012 team for longest winning streak.
Hutchinson will have Sunday off, but are back at Hobart-Detter on Monday night to kick off a huge 4 game series with league leading Cheney. First pitch is at 7pm and the game will be streamed on hutch post.com.
