NEWTON, Kan. — Dozens of dead geese have been reported in recent weeks at the wetlands on Southwest 14th Street. City staff are coordinating with the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks, who believe the deaths are likely due to avian flu. The dead birds will be left where they are to let nature take its course.

KDWP advises that if you see a migratory bird acting abnormally, you should report it to their biologists at 620-342-0658. Do not handle any birds that appear sick or injured. If you have to handle a dead bird, wear disposable gloves, double bag it, and place it in your trash cart before disinfecting your hands and clothes.
