Dragons send 7 to NJCAA National Indoor Championships

The Hutchinson Community College track and field teams will send a combined seven athletics to the 2021 NJCAA Indoor Championships, which begin a two-day run on Friday at Pittsburg State University's Robert Plaster Center.

The first events on Friday begin at 9 a.m. and on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Midwest Timing will handle the event timing and live results.

The Blue Dragon men have six qualifiers for the 2021 championships. Sophomores Teagan Flanagan and Erick Johnson will compete in two events. Rebeca Reymundo is the only indoor qualifier from the women's team.

Teagan Flanagan – The 2020 NJCAA Cross Country All-American will compete in the 3,000- and 5,000-meter races. Flanagan is ranked ninth in the NJCAA in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:15.34. He is ranked 11th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:47.28. Flanagan will run both races on Friday … the 5,000 meters at 12:15 p.m. and 3,000 meters at 7:40 p.m.

+ Johnson qualified in the triple jump and is a coach's White Card entry. Johnson is the highest-ranked Blue Dragon in any event. He enters Saturday's 11 a.m. triple jump ranked fifth in the NJCAA with a jump of 47 feet, 1 inch. Despite not reaching the NJCAA qualifying mark in the long jump, Johnson is ranked eighth in that event at 23 feet, 0 inches. The men's long jump will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

+ Sprinter Donovan Hines is the only Blue Dragon in a Friday preliminary. He will run in the 60 meters with a No. 23 ranking and a time of 6.86 seconds. The 60-meter preliminaries are at 2:10 p.m. on Friday. The finals are at 1:35 p.m. on Saturday.

+ Sophomore Wyatt Thiel is tied for sixth in the high jump with freshman teammate Zach Biel. Thiel went 6-6 3/4 at the Cowley Invite and Biel matched him at the Region VI Championships. The men's high jump is at 6 p.m. on Friday.

+ Cleydterrious Thompson will be a Coach's White Card entry in the long jump. Thompson's best this season was 22 feet, 6 1/4 inches. That is ranked 14th in the NJCAA.

+ Reymundo is a repeat qualified in the indoor Pentathlon. The Blue Dragon sophomore qualified 15th with 2,217 points set ant the 2021 Region VI championships. The five-event competition will be completed on Friday with the first event 60-meter hurdles at 9 a.m. Friday. The Pentathlon high jump is at 10 a.m., shot put at 12:30 p.m., long jump at 1:45 p.m. and the 800 meters at 3 p.m.
