🏀 NJCAA Tourney: Panola depth helps seal first round win

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — No. 15 seed Panola College knocked off No. 18 Jones County in the first round of the tournament. The Panola College Ponies defeated the Jones County Bobcats 84-73. 

Panola's bench scored a combined 34 points. Sophomore guard Christian Henry scored 24 off the bench for a team high. Sophomore guard Jaiden Lawrence had 16 and sophomore forward Yaphet Moundi recorded 15 rebounds off the bench and chipped in eight points. 

The Pernell brothers, freshman guards Dimp and Ky Pernell, combined for 37 points for Jones County. 

Jones County cut into a 36-28 scoring deficit right before halftime all the way down to two. Panola added two to make it a four point game (38-34) at the half. 

Panola held Jones County to just 49 total points with 7:53 left to go in the second. They maintained their lead and scored a team combined 19 points off of turnovers. 

Up next, Panola will face No. 2 seed South Plains in round two tomorrow evening at 7:15 p.m. The play-by-play will be led by Glen Grunwald and Bryan Miller on Country 102.9 FM and KWBW 1450 AM/98.5 FM.
