Youth Council applications out Wednesday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Youth Council has set the dates for its application process. The Youth Council will be composed of 5 elected members who will be charged with representing youth in the City of Hutchinson.

The Youth City Council will be overseen by an advisory board consisting of the following members: 

Steve Garza, Michael Jobe, Francis Garcia, Scott Jewell, Darryl Peterson, Heather Jobe and Esmeralda Tovar-Mora.

The Youth Council will:

Increase youth voice and communication in Hutchinson’s future direction.

Increase volunteerism among youth and adults in civic affairs, and enhance civic education

Youth Council members will be selected through a competitive application process. An ideal youth council will be composed of a diverse group of young people that will represent ALL youth in Hutchinson.

The primary criterion for selection will be a demonstration that the young person wants to make a difference in Hutchinson.

Youth Council voting members will be comprised of: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Activities Director. The office of Vice-President is reserved for 8th Grade students only. The office of Secretary is reserved for 7th Grade students only.

Youth Council applications will be distributed through the schools Wednesday, August 24th. Applications will be due Wednesday, Sept 7th. Please return completed applications to your school principal or guidance counselor, or to City Hall. Finalists will be contacted no later than Monday, September 12th with instructions. Final candidates can expect to attend a live forum on Saturday, Sept 17th, with the time to be announced later.
