Hutchinson Community College freshman runner David Thid was named the Jayhawk Conference and NJCAA National Track Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.

Making his Blue Dragon debut on Saturday at the Washburn Rust Buster Classic in Topeka, Thid won the 600-yard run and qualified for the 2024 NJCAA Indoor Championships in March.

The freshman from Ronninge, Sweden won the event with a time of 1:12.43. When his time was converted to meters, Thid posted an NJCAA qualifying time of 1:21.13, which is the third-fastest indoor 600 time in Blue Dragon men’s track and field history.

Thid’s converted 600-meter time currently ranks No. 11 in the NJCAA this season.

This is the first Blue Dragon men’s runner to capture national weekly honors since Andrew Kibet on May 8, 2019.
