Police issue Friday morning release

Posted Jun 05, 2020 1:26 PM

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After several hours of communication between the protest organizers, the Hutchinson Police Department and other community leaders there is a process in place to move the official protest to Saturday (June 6th) between 11am-1pm. However, this does not guarantee that there will not be activity at the protest location today (30th and Main, Friday June 5th).

Due to increased threats against the protest organizers the Hutchinson Police Department is strongly asking them to cancel this protest for their own safety and the safety of our community.

In the event the protest continues as planned the Hutchinson Police Department is urging community members to avoid the protest area and allow us to perform our duties in protecting both the community and the protestors.

I understand there is great concern in our community regarding this event. Have faith in the men and women of the Hutchinson

Police Department and our emergency services partners. We have an operational plan in place and are prepared. We will work tirelessly to protect and service our community and see us peacefully through this event.
