SALINE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon after a shooting at a Salina motel.

Just after 4:30p.m. Sunday, police responded to the Airliner Motel, 781 North Broadway Boulevard in Salina for the report of a shooting, according to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester.

Police were informed that persons who had occupied room 25 had left in a black Ford Mustang.

An officer located the car headed southbound in the 300 block of North Ninth Street and pulled it over. 

They found a34-year-old Assaria, Kansas, woman and a 23-year-old Salina woman who had been shot in her back in the shoulder, according to Forrester. 

The women reported that someone knocked on the door of the motel room. When the door was opened, man was in the doorway and allegedly fired two shots into the room, one of which struck the Salina woman. The suspect later identified as 33-year-old Michael Haffner of Topeka then fled.

Several witnesses described the man as wearing a white shirt and brown or maroon shorts. An officer in the area located the Haffner coming out of an alley in the 600 block of North 12th Street and made an arrest.

Haffner is being held on requested charges that include Aggravated battery and Aggravated burglary. Police also located two 22 caliber shell casings at the scene, according to Forrester. The woman's injury was non-life threatening.
