Crews assist 2 from intentionally set Kan. house fire

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Authorities are investigating the cause of a Monday house fire in Topeka.

Just before 6:30a.m., crews responded to a structure fire at 1420 S. Kansas Avenue, according to Fire Marshal Todd Harrison. 

They found smoke and flames coming from the two story home. During a primary search of the structure they found and assisted two occupants safely out of the house.

A preliminary investigation indicates the fire cause to be, intentionally set, according to Harrison. The estimated dollar loss – $13,000.00; all of which is associated with structural loss.

Working smoke detectors were not located within the structure of fire origin. There were no injuries.

Any individuals with information about the circumstances of this fire are being asked to please contact police, according to Harrison.
