HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Lovella Kelley, who has led the Hutchinson Cruise for the Food events since the pandemic, reminded the public of the distribution instructions for Saturday night's event.
"You do not exit your vehicle," Kelley said. "You just pull up over slowly next to the vehicle and someone will take your donation or show you what to do with it. Last time, everything went real smoothly and I think it will this time too. St. Vincent de Paul initiated this project. This time, there are others helping, some other churches and agencies, which I'll recognize later. Just be mindful that our purpose is to help with food and supply needs. Drive carefully, particularly in the work zone. There's a bag of popcorn per car in front of the Flag Theatre."
The event is from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday night on Main.
"We ended up having a lot of really beautiful cars that came to drag Main," Kelley said. "Of course, the weather was extremely wonderful that night. This is to supplement the food needs in the community. They can use most anything. Right now, the big need is for cleaning supplies, diapers, those kinds of things. Whatever works for you, we'd be happy to take and distribute wherever it needs to go."
There will be several pickups for you to put donations in.
"There will be at least six and maybe a couple more," Kelley said. "They'll be identified with an American flag. You'll know which ones you can stop and visit."
Remember that those in vehicles should all be from the same household, in an effort to stop the spread of the virus.
