HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Regional Medical Center was pleased to announce this week that they had a remarkable recovery from COVID-19 at the hospital.

"We released one of our first COVID-19 admissions yesterday," said Chuck Welch with the hospital on Thursday. "She came in seventeen days ago and rapidly digressed to the point that she was put in the ICU, intubated, ventilated and spent ten days in the ICU on a ventilator. Again, her whole course was 17 days. She was released Wednesday, fully recovered."

Welch couldn't give too many specifics, but said the patient presented with all the symptoms consistent with COVID-19.

"This is sort of the gold standard COVID-19 presentation," Welch said. "I would have to look back in her chart and I would be walking a line with what I could share with you there, but, as I remember, she presented pretty classically with low-grade fever, cough, actually went home I believe and was asked to self-quarantine and monitor and then came back within a day or two."

The patient told the hospital the first thing she is going to do is hug her mother.
