SEATTLE (AP) — Washington has added Wichita State transfer Erik Stevenson and junior college standout Nate Pryor. Stevenson played two years for the Shockers before leaving the program and returning to Washington, his home state. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 11.1 points per game last season for Wichita State. Pryor is a Seattle native who spent the past two years at North Idaho College, where the team was a combined 59-3 during his two seasons. Pryor averaged 16.8 points and 4.1 assistant per game last season for North Idaho.
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma State has added graduate transfer Ferron Flavors Jr. to a Top 10 recruiting class. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 13.4 points and 3.5 rebounds for Cal Baptist last season. He shot 43.9 percent from 3-point range and made three 3s per game — both tops in the Western Athletic Conference and in the top 30 nationally. Oklahoma State also signed signed four-star recruits Donovan Williams and Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe, a top player from Canada who has international experience. Oklahoma State’s recruiting class is ranked No. 4 by Rivals, No. 8 by ESPN and No. 9 by 247Sports.
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma has signed transfers Umoja Gibson and Elijah Harkless. Both will have to sit out next season because of NCAA rules and will have two years of eligibility remaining. Gibson was the second-leading scorer for a North Texas squad that won the Conference USA regular-season title. He averaged 14.5 points and 1.4 steals per game last season. Harkless spent two seasons at Cal State Northridge. He averaged 10.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and a Big West-leading 1.7 steals last season.
UNDATED (AP) — The commissioners of the major college football conferences have told Vice President Mike Pence college sports cannot return from the coronavirus shutdown until campuses have re-opened. Ten commissioners and the athletic director of Notre Dame, comprise the College Football Playoff management committee. Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby says Pence asked good questions and was “hopeful and optimistic” about the fight against the pandemic. Major sporting events have been called off and colleges have moved classes online.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Oklahoma transfer Trey Sermon is expected to add depth to Ohio State's injury-ravaged running back corps. Sermon is a graduate transfer whose season was cut short by a knee injury after nine games last year. Buckeyes coach Ryan Day says he thinks Sermon will be in line to contribute if and when fall camp starts. Ohio State has two returning running backs who are recovering from injuries — Master Teague III and Marcus Crowley. Teague suffered an Achilles injury on the first day of spring practice, before it was called off entirely because of the coronavirus pandemic.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Baseball Hall of Famer Roy Halladay had high levels of amphetamines in his system and was doing extreme acrobatics when he lost control of his small plane and nosedived into Tampa Bay in 2017, killing him. That’s according to a report issued yesterday by the National Transportation Safety Board. Halladay had amphetamine levels about 10 times therapeutic levels in his blood along with a high level of morphine and an anti-depressant that can impair judgment.
UNDATED (AP) — Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive lineman Willie Davis has died at 85. Davis was a five-time All-Pro who helped Green Bay win six championships from 1960-67, including the first two Super Bowls. He was voted to the NFL’s all-decade team for the 1960s and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1981, 12 years after he retired. Davis played his first two seasons with the Cleveland Browns after being taken in the 15th round of the 1958 NFL draft out of Grambling.
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Graduate transfer Dimencio Vaughn has signed to play his final season with Mississippi after three years at Rider. Vaughn averaged 14.8 points and 6.6 rebounds last season, ranking fifth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in both categories. He was twice a first-team All-MAAC selection and was considered one of the top available grad transfers. Vaughn received a medical redshirt after a season-ending injury nine games into his freshman season.
STAMFORD, Conn (AP) — World Wrestling Entertainment started releasing professional wrestlers yesterday in budget cuts related to the coronavirus pandemic. The moves came even with the company allowed to continue to run live TV shows in Florida after Gov. Ron DeSantis deemed WWE an essential business. Pro sports were added to a list of businesses permitted to stay open in an April 9 memorandum. WWE is allowed to continue putting on shows without fans.
