HUTCHINSON, Kan. —
The Hutchinson community came together to cruise Main and donate food and supplies on Tuesday.
"We had, I believe, eight pickup trucks full," said Lovella Kelley with St. Vincent de Paul. "What was really, really wonderful was the smiles, the honking, the waving. The people just being people." It was hopeful and it was just really great."
There isn't a specific weight of donations yet, because the food bank was closed at the time the event finished.
"It was hopeful," Kelley said. "It was just really great."
There were lots of people who took the occasion to get out their cruising vehicles.
"I really didn't anticipate it being like a car show," Kelley said. "Wow, this is just amazing. The policemen came by and they stopped and helped us pick up food. It was just really, really gratifying."
Kelley said she'd give more information later, but their intent is to let the food sit for a couple of days to mitigate any risk of virus transmission, even though there was very little human contact involved in the event.
