Thiel becomes 14th Blue Dragon National Qualifier

NORMAN, Okla. – Wyatt Thiel became the 14th Hutchinson Community College men's track and field indoor national qualifier with a high day at the University of Central Oklahoma Alumni Classic held at the University of Oklahoma's indoor track facility.

Thiel blew away his old season best clearance in the high jump and reached the NJCAA automatic qualifying standard of 6 feet, 6 3/4 inches to finish fourth in the event on Saturday.

Thiel's previous best clearance this season has been 5-10 3.4.

The Blue Dragons now have 13 individual qualifiers and one relay that have punched tickets for the NJCAA Indoor Championships in March at Lynchburg, VA. Next week the Blue Dragons will have their final chances to up the total number of qualifiers at the 2020 Region VI Indoor Championships next Friday and Saturday at the Plaster Center in Pittsburg.

Other Blue Dragon highlights on Saturday at UCO:

+ Sprinter Jared Scott placed second in the 200 meters with a time of 22.05.

Jovan Jackson was third in the 400 meters in a time of 51.34 seconds.

Teagan Flanagan finished third in the Mile run with a time of 4:35.48.

Guthrie Turner placed fourth in the triple jump at 40 feet, 11 1/2 inches. Matthew Melchor was sixth at 40-7 1/2.
