HUTCHINSON, Kan. - County Commissioner Bob Bush announced during Tuesday’s meeting that he will not run for another term as commissioner of the 3rd district.

Bush said his continued battle with cancer is the reason he is stepping away at the end of this term.

“ I’m taking this opportunity to announce that I have decided not to run for a second term in office,” Bush said. “I’ve been an elected official for 12 years, eight years at the city and four years at the county.”

Bush was diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and although it has been in remission new cancer concerns and his treatment regimen swayed him to step down.

“I believe it is now time to devote my attention to my family, business and my personal health,” Bush said. “I’ve been able to schedule treatments well in advance to ensure they had the least amount of impact on the commission and the county. However, it is likely that future treatments will be more time consuming.”

Bush said it has been a privilege to work with the county staff and others and he wishes everyone the best in the future.

“I guess I would just like to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed being a county commissioner,” Bush said. “ If my health was up to it I would run again in a heartbeat.”

Bush has been a County Commissioner for four years and was a member of the Hutchinson City Council for eight years.
