PRATT  Kan. – Sophomores Lauryn Mapusua and Abby Ogle both had 20-point games and the Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team made a quick start stand up to roll to a 10th-consecutive victory over Pratt on Saturday night.

Hutch jumped out to an 11-point lead after one quarter, holding the Beavers to just three points in the first 10 minutes, and rolled to a 74-44 Jayhawk West victory over Pratt at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons improve to 17-2 overall and keep pace in the Jayhawk West at 9-1. Pratt falls to 11-8 overall and 5-5 in the Jayhawk West. Hutchinson returns home on Wednesday to face the Dodge City Conquistadors at 5:30 p.m.

The victory secures Hutchinson’s 44th winning season in its 46-year history.

Hutchinson held its third-straight opponent to less than 33 percent shooting, limiting Pratt to just 24.2 percent overall shooting (15 of 62) and only 5 of 25 from 3-point range. Pratt was just 1 of 13 in the first quarter, missing its first five attempts. The Dragons jumped out to leads of 5-0, 11-2 and 14-3 in the first quarter.

Mapusua followed up her career-high rebound performance against Garden City on Wednesday with a career-best offensive performance against the Beavers.

Mapusua scored a career-high 21 points with career-high-tying seven field goals and three 3-point goals. Mapusua added nine rebounds and three assists.

Ogle had her sixth 20-point game of the season, hitting 8 of 14 total shots. Ogle added seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Sophomore Makayla Vannett hit three 3-pointers and finished with nine points. Sasha Francis and Brooklyn Betham each had six points.

Hutchinson shot 48.2 percent for the game (27 of 56, going 9 of 25 from 3-point range and 11 of 14 from the free-throw line. The Blue Dragons had a 45-34 rebounding advantage and overcame 18 turnovers.

Rylee Alexander had 11 points to lead Pratt. Jordan Mathis had eight points and Tytiana Haamid finished with eight. Pratt committed 17 turnovers.

The Blue Dragons scored the first five points of the game on a Nafatoumata Haidara point-blank shot and Vannett 3-pointer. The Beavers scored their first points of the game with 4:41 remaining in the period on a Haamid bucket. Ogle hit two free throws with 2:51 left in the period to complete a 6-0 run and lead 11-2. Mapusua hit her first 3-pointer with 1:12 to go to give the Dragons a 14-3 lead, the same score after the completion of the first quarter.

Mathis scored six early points in the second period, cutting the Hutch lead to 17-10 with 7:12 remaining in the quarter. The Blue Dragons then took charge with a 16-2 run over the next 5:31 to take a 33-12 lead after an Ogle backdoor layup with 1:41 to play in the period. Vannett hit another trey and Ogle scored inside to bump the lead past 20 for the first time at 33-12 with 1:41 left. Pratt’s Janell Douvier hit a 3-pointer with 2 seconds remaining to cut the Hutch lead to 33-15 at halftime.

From that seven-point lead early in the second quarter, the Blue Dragons extended that run into the third quarter to 24-5 and led 41-15 on an Ogle basket with 7:27 to go in the third quarter. Hutch pushed its lead to 30 for the first time at the 2:07 mark of the third quarter on a Sasha Francis three-point play for a 52-21 lead. The Dragons led 54-21 after three quarters. Pratt was 9 of 46 shooting, 1 of 17 from 3-point range through three quarters.
