HUTCHINSON, Kan. —Rise Up Reno Prevention Network has a special event on Monday while students are off for the Martin Luther King Jr. day observance.

"Our high school leadership group likes to spend the day with the younger kids," said Carla Smith with Rise Up Reno. "It's called the Youth Empowerment Summit. We want to spend that day just really giving kids an opportunity to feel empowered to go back to their schools and their family and their community and do great things."

Hutch High student Tyler Lang will be leading some of the activities with the 5th through 8th graders that attend.

"I will be working with the kids throughout breakout sessions, then I'll do some lunch trivia," Lang said. "We'll just go around teaching kids about the effects of drugs and alcohol and how to make safe and healthy lifestyle choices."

Registration begins at 7:30am at Hutchinson High School. The entire summit is free!
