HUTCHINSON, Kan. - A local resident is doing her part to ease some of the stress that can be a part of the lives of foster children.

Often, children who are placed in foster care come to their placement with very little. Sarah Reade, local Usborne Books & More representative, is trying to help children in that transition. She is collecting donations to buy brand new books for children who might find themselves placed in foster care at Saint Francis Ministries. St. Francis is the local foster care provider in Reno County.

“I want to give these kids something that is all their own,” Reade said. “Books are an amazing way for children and adults to bond and my hope is that these books will help the children transition into their foster homes.”

There are close to 300 children in foster care in Reno County alone and Reade hopes to raise enough money to buy a book for each one. Usborne Books & More will match 50% of every dollar donated to the drive.

Local businesses are jumping on board to help with the drive as well. “The response has been pretty amazing so far. I am always blown away by this community and their willingness to give,” Reade said.

The book drive will run through the end of the month. If you would like to donate, you can contact Reade at [email protected] or visit the fundraising website here: https://fundrazr.com/readewithsaintfrancis
