NICKERSON, Kan. — After seeing its previous meeting canceled because of snow, the Nickerson USD 309 School Board will hold its first meeting after Christmas Break Monday evening.

Among the items on the agenda is a report from Schaefer Johnson Cox Frey Architecture. The firm will be on hand to discuss where the district goes following the failed bond issue in November.

The board will also go over the Handle With Care program, which could be made available throughout the district. The program was piloted by South Hutchinson police and Rise Up Reno. The program provides law enforcement and schools the opportunity to provide support to a student who has suffered from a traumatic event. The program will be free to the district through Rise Up Reno.

The grant includes training for staff and ongoing support for community partners such as law enforcement and the school district. If the program is successful, it could be implemented in other Reno County school districts next year.

Monday’s meeting of the Nickerson USD 309 School Board begins at the school district offices at 4501 W. 4th, just west of Fun Valley.
