HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson USD 308 has received the Commissioner’s Award from the Kansas State Department of Education for graduates’ performance.
The Commissioner's Award recognizes Kansas districts that outperform their predicted postsecondary effectiveness rate. A district's predicted postsecondary effectiveness rate factors in the degree to which identified risk factors are known to depress post-secondary success. Those factors include poverty, chronic absenteeism and student mobility.
Hutchinson Superintendent Mike Folks thanked all staff in an email for their combined work toward the award.
“We realize student success begins at a very young age and all of our schools, staff and programs play an integral role in raising a successful student,” Folks wrote. “Congratulations to everyone dedicated to improving the lives of our students. Way to go, Hutch. I'm proud of you!”
KSDE launched the Kansans Can Star Recognition program this week, designed to recognize districts for the success achieved in the individual outcome areas.
“We realize this is just the starting point for improvement,” Folks said. “As we move further into school redesign, we continue to strive to meet the needs of all students.”
The postsecondary effectiveness rate is the percent of ninth-graders who graduate in four years and meet one of the four following outcomes within two years of high school graduation:
* The student earned an industry-recognized certification while in high school.
*The student earned a postsecondary certificate.
*The student earned a postsecondary degree.
*A student enrolled in postsecondary in both the first and second years following high school graduation.
