Commission approves temporary fix for courthouse dome

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Commission approved the only action item on its agenda Tuesday. That included an agreement with Restoration and Waterproof Contractors to make temporary exterior masonry repairs to the courthouse dome at a base price of $24,300.

This is only a temporary fix to keep moisture from getting in until permanent repairs can be made next spring. The cost to make permanent repairs could cost a couple hundred thousand dollars, according to County Administrator Gary Meagher.

The damage was caused by the fairly major earthquake that rocked the Hutchinson area back in August. Officials are still studying how that work will proceed to fix the problem.
