USD 308 to discuss building trades program

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson USD 308 School Board will go over the procedures and plans for the building trades program at Hutchinson High School during tonight’s agenda session.

The Career and Technical Education Academy provides a building trades class where students build a new home during the school year. That home is then sold and the funds are used to keep the program going the following year.

The action taken by the board will simply cover how the program will run and provide a list of realtors who will sell the home. That list rotates over a period of years.

Also tonight, the board will hear a monitoring report on whether the district is hitting its target for providing students with the necessary employability skills. Those skills include problem-solving, critical thinking and creativity. The program also stresses work ethic and financial competency.

The report will also provide information on chronic absenteeism and graduation rates.

Tonight’s Hutchinson USD 308 School Board meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the school district offices at 1520 N. Plum.
