HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Reno County Sheriff’s Office held their 1st annual “Shop with a Sheriff” Saturday morning. It’s sponsored by their Local Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #18.

They partnered with Buhler, Fairfield, Haven, Nickerson, Pretty Prairie and South Hutchinson elementary schools to come up with some names of kids in Reno County that might benefit from a little extra Christmas cheer.

The FOP raised enough money to give 25 kids from the area $100 a piece to buy Christmas presents at Walmart. $900.00 was donated by the Core Gym in Downtown Hutchinson. Walmart also generously donated a $50 gift card for each kid.

Durham School Services donated a bus and they took the kids and Sheriff Department volunteers to Walmart, then to Gambinos Pizza in South Hutchinson where they, along with the volunteers, had all the pizza and pop they wanted.

This year’s event actually evolved from a smaller event organized in the jail last year where they held a no-shave fundraiser and raised over $500.00 and sponsored five kids.

The Sheriff’s Department hope to do this every year from now on.
