HUTCHINSON, Kan. — In an effort to help veterans, there is a place in Hutchinson where you can take aluminum cans.

Warren Vincent, who was raised in Hutchinson but now lives in McPherson, says in a Facebook post that Cans 4 Kansas Honor Flights have been collecting cans since 2011.

From those aluminum cans, he says the organization has funded 143 World War II, Korean and Vietnam veterans and raised well over $125,000 for Kansas Honor Flight.

Last year, the organization also started funding some of the 10 high school honor flights from Kansas. This year, the organization has funded 24 heroes at $800 per veteran. Cans 4 Kansas Honor Flights has also recycled 26.99 tons this year.

The organization has collection sites in nine counties. In Hutchinson, the 24/7 site is behind Skaets Steak Shop at 23rd and Main. Organizers ask that you donate cans in securely-tied sacks at that location to help those who served our country in the military.

You can also take cans or any scrap metal directly to Midwest Iron at 700 S. Main and tell Kathy at the desk you want your payout to go to Cans 4 Kansas Honor Flights.
