HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Family Community Theatre’s second show of its 33rd season is the classic comedy, Arsenic and Old Lace. The comedy is on stage at the Flag Theatre beginning Thursday.
"It's the story of the Brewster sisters in a home in Brooklyn who decide to take on a personal charity," said director Ben Jones. "They have gentlemen that come to stay with them as a temporary or permanent boarder. They question them and they find out they have no family or loved ones and as a sign of mercy, they poison them."
American playwright Joseph Kesselring wrote the play in 1939.
"He was a professor at Bethel College, just down the road over here at North Newton," Jones said. "In fact, the house that he modeled his set after is now the president's house at Bethel College."
The Family Children’s Theatre production has a cast of 12. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Flag Theatre at 310 North Main in Hutchinson.
Tickets are available at Absolutely Home, Bookends Book Store or online at familycommunitytheater.org.
