Monarchs top Wichita Grays with timely hitting; extra bases

HUTCHINSON, Kan. - The Hutchinson Monarchs combined for 11 hits and scored in every inning except the 3rd as Mikel Howell was dazzling on the mound striking out 7 including 5 K's in a row, to give the 5-0 Monarchs a 12-2 run rule victory over the Wichita Grays Monday night. 

Howell pitched gave up no hits and walked 2 in the 4 innings he pitched to pick up the win.

The Grays were comprised of several players from around Wichita and some from Garden City that will be incoming high school juniors and seniors this fall.  Their youth showed at times as they committed 5 errors that contributed to the loss.  Peyton Walters was impressive in relief for the Grays giving up 2 hits and striking out 5 Monarchs in the 3 innings he pitched.

Hutchinson had 6 hits for extra bases including a towering home run by Austin Callahan who was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's.  Taylor Barber also enjoyed another extra hit game going 2 for 3 while driving in 2 runs as well.  Luke Sartori and Easton Rindt both were 2 for 4 also.

The Monarchs will have Wednesday as an off day and then return to Hobart-Detter field on Thursday and Friday to play host to the Haysville Aviators (1-8).  Friday's game will again be broadcast on the internet at Hutchpost.com with game time set for 7 pm.
