WICHITA, Kan. — The Hutchinson Monarchs continued their recent dominance in an 11-1 run-rule victory in eight innings over the Lonestar Baseball Club (Tex.) in the 89th National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series quarterfinal on Thursday afternoon.
Hutchinson (24-17) scored one in the third, one in the fourth, two in the sixth, one in the seventh and broke the game open with a six-run eighth inning.
The Monarchs collected 17 hits in the game, their second time in four games at the NBC World Series where they have recorded 17 hits. The Monarchs seven, eight and nine hole hitters were a combined 10-for-15 at the plate with a home run, two doubles and six RBI.
Sam Wiese, who the Monarchs picked up for the postseason finished the day 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBI, including a three-run home run in the eighth inning to push the lead to double digits. Wiese also hit a ground-rule double in the sixth inning.
Former HutchCC Blue Dragon Will Edmunson also drove in three runs for the Monarchs with a 2-for-4 day at the plate and a walk. Jarrett Flaggert went 3-for-5 at the dish with two RBI. Edmunson, Wiese and Blake Bradford each doubled for Hutchinson, as well.
Brady Beverman dominated on the mound for the Monarchs, going seven innings, striking out seven with no walks issued. He did allow one run on four hits given up. Derick Johnson pitched a scoreless eighth inning of relief, striking out one.
The Monarchs advance to Friday's semifinal at 6 p.m., and await the winner of the Kansas Cannons and Five Tool Kraken, which is schedule for 6 p.m. this evening.
