HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After inching up slightly in July, the unemployment rate fell in Reno County in the month of August as jobs came back following the pandemic shutdown.

The county jobless rate fell from 7% in July to 6.6%. The city’s unemployment rate fell from 7.9% to 7.4%. There were 1,961 residents without work, 185 fewer than July.

According to Tucky Allen with KansasWorks, most of those jobs are in the service sector and companies are having a hard time finding skilled workers again as companies ramp up to pre-pandemic levels.

The state's unemployment rate was also down from 7.2% to 6.9%.
