HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Allen Samuels CDJR Teacher of the month for April is Courtney Bleything, 5th grade Teacher at Morgan Elementary. Bleything has worked in USD 308 for 16 years.

"I enjoy building relationships with my students," Bleything said. "I also love exposing them to math and different types of books that they can read."

The entry for Bleything at Hutch Post noted that she finds time to sit down and hand write uplifting notes on cards and mails them to her students. She's especially proud of how they have taken care of their obligations during COVID-19.

"The kids have really adapted well," Bleything said. "They've shown some perseverance and determination, for sure."

Watching her students figure out how to solve problems is one of the things that brings her satisfaction.

"I love when students can make mistakes and grow from them," Bleything said. "Watching students persevere through a problem that they didn't think they could make it through is one of the best things that can take place in the classroom. I also enjoy when students can share their ideas with others and help them see different ways or a different solution to a problem that they might have, whether that be math, reading, or even in life."

Bleything was nominated as one of USD 308's entries in the Kansas National Teacher of the Year competition this past spring.
