City Council to open public comment portion of meetings

Posted Aug 03, 2020 8:25 PM

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson City Council meetings have continued to take place at City Hall as scheduled throughout the pandemic, however, comments have been limited to email and call-in options much of the time.

That's about to change as the city announced Monday it would resume public comment in person but with restrictions in place. Public comment in person will resume with Tuesday’s regular meeting. The decision to change back to the more restricted format is subject to change at any time based on health indicators.

The following precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of the public, councilmembers and city staff:

Per state mandate, masks are required within City Hall. Masks will be available for those who need them. Temperatures will be taken as you enter the building and the city asks that you stay home if you are sick. Hand sanitizer will be available and the podium will be sanitized between speakers.

Most of all, those not addressing the council are asked to not attend in person, including non-essential city staff and media. If you come to address the council, please be patient and be aware that there may be a wait to enter the building.

Meetings will continue to be streamed live on the city's YouTube channel, the city’s Facebook page and on channel 7.

You can reach all council members via phone or email outside of meeting times, their contact information is posted at hutchgov.com
