Surge lose to Springfield Friday

WICHITA, KS– Josh Winder had a good night on the mound Friday for Wichita, but his offense could not back him up as the Cardinals took game four of the series, 3-1.

Winder pitched six innings of one run baseball, allowing six hits and striking out eight.

Wichita wasted no time as they opened the scoring in their first appearances at the plate. Jose Miranda led off the inning with a single to center field and then advanced to second on a fielding error. Ernie De La Trinidad capitalized on the error with another single up the middle, driving in Miranda and putting Wichita ahead before the Cardinals could record an out. However, that was the only run they could muster on the night.

Springfield answered back in the top of the fifth inning with a sneaky play of their own. After Josh Winder struck out Ivan Herrera, Delvin Perez of the Cardinals had a heads up play by stealing home after Roy Morales threw the ball back to Winder. Perez caught everyone off guard by stealing home and tying the game at one.

Springfield won it in the ninth as DH Nick Raposo and SS Delvin Perez started the rally with a single and a double, respectively, before C Ivan Herrera placed an RBI fielder's choice and RF Alec Burleson followed with an RBI base hit.

The two teams meet again Saturday in Wichita. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m.
