BUHLER, Kan. — The good news that USD 313 Superintendent Cindy Couchman shared with Hutch Post in October will be part of the Board of Education meeting for that district on Monday night. Buhler is in the top tier of districts in the latest post-secondary success measures released last month by the Kansas Department of Education.
Also on the agenda is approval of a new art class at Buhler High School and discussion of the Heggerty Phonemic Awareness program.
Phonemic awareness is the ability to understand that spoken words are made up of individual sounds called phonemes, and it’s one of the best early predictors for reading success. Heggerty has assessments for elementary students to figure out if they know what words rhyme and if not, how to fix it.
The Buhler USD 313 Board of Education will meet Monday evening at 6:00 pm in the Burkholder Administrative Center in Buhler.
