🏀 MBB: Dragons erase 20-point deficit late

GREAT BEND, Kan. — With 7:40 remaining Saturday, No. 15 Hutchinson (6-0) trailed Clarendon (3-2) by 20 points.

After leading by four at the break, Hutchinson fell behind 86-66 with less than eight minutes left.

Hutchinson used a 31-8 run to take the lead with 12.1 seconds left.

The Bulldogs were led by Zarique Nutter, who had a double-double by halftime. With Hutchinson up three, Nutter was purposely fouled with 12 seconds left.

In the double bonus, Nutter cut the lead to 97-95 with one toss remaining.

He intentionally missed the second free throw and Hutchinson could not secure the rebound. The Bulldogs nearly lost the ball out of bounds when the ball caromed off a player's foot.

Clarendon corralled the ball in the deep left corner with just three seconds left.

Nutter inbounded and quickly got the ball back. His three-point attempt at the buzzer rimmed off.

FINAL: Hutchinson 97 Clarendon 95

Clarendon shot 1 of 12 from beyond the arc.

Hutchinson put up 113 shots (31%).

Clarendon scored 32 fast-break points compared to Hutchinson's 10.

Angelo Stuart led the way for Hutchinson with 28 points.

Kobe Campbell added 17 off the bench.

Jacquez Yow just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Nutter finished with 35 points and 17 rebounds.

Hutchinson was outrebounded 74-62.

Clarendon turned the ball over 29 times. Hutchinson scored 37 points off those turnovers.

The Dragons open conference play Wednesday at Independence.
