First Call for Help taking backpack registrations, need school supplies

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — First Call for Help is holding its annual backpack registration between now and August 2nd. They annually help between 2,000 and 2,500 Reno County students with supplies each year.

Call 620-669-0159 or come to First Call for Help at 17 West 2nd on Tuesday or Thursday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. or Wednesday between 9 a.m. and noon.

In order to get a backpack, a child must be enrolled in a Reno County public or private school from kindergarten to 12th grade and must qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Distribution of backpacks is by appointment August 8-12. You must be pre-registered to get a backpack.

The program is subject to funding and availability of the school supplies.

If you'd like to donate money, you can drop it by the office during their open hours, or drop off new, unused school supplies on Tuesday or Thursday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. or Wednesday between 9 a.m. and noon.
