LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — The Missouri Valley Conference has had so much success against schools from Power 5 leagues over the years that Lance Leipold flat refused to play its teams when he was the head coach at Buffalo.
He didn’t have a say in who Kansas would play in his first game leading the Jayhawks.
Kansas will face South Dakota on Friday night to start the season at Memorial Stadium. The Coyotes played just four games last season because of the pandemic, but they return 21 starters and have designs on competing in the tough Valley this season.
