HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The first round substate game Tuesday night for the Hutch High girls came down to the fourth quarter of play, after the Salthawks rallied from six down at the half to tie the game at 30 on a Grace Posch drive and layup just before the end of the third.
Unfortunately, Hutchinson only scored one point in the fourth quarter, a single made free throw from Aliyah Green, and that wasn't enough as Manhattan scored six fourth quarter points to win 36-31.
Neither team had any double-figure scorers, as strong defense and shooting struggles for both sides kept the score low. Destiny Yates had 9 for Manhattan, Avery Larson had 8. Maxine Doering had 7.
Hutch was led by Mya Thompson's 8 points, Green and Harlie Wilson both had 7.
Manhattan, now 9-12, goes on to play league foe Washburn Rural in Topeka Friday, as they defeated Garden City 61-27 on Tuesday.
