HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Administrator Randy Partington notes that the sales tax for the county has been strong this year and that has helped the county budget.

"This year, we're going to bring in close to $5 million in sales tax revenues for the general fund," Partington said. "That's a good portion of our general fund budget."

That's well above what the county planned for in 2021.

"The revenue side, when we budget, we underestimate, especially with sales tax," Partington said. "For example, for 2021, we budgeted $3.8 million in sales tax revenues and we're at about $4.8 million right now. We're already at about $1 million more than what we budgeted."

The county is keeping that money in savings for now, though, because they don't know what the ongoing impact of COVID or other unforeseen events might be on future budgets.
