Sooners capture Big 12 softball regular season title

No. 1 Oklahoma captured the 2021 Big 12 softball regular season championship in a race that came down to the final day of the season. With the Bedlam series tied 1-1, the Sooners won the rubber match over No. 7 Oklahoma State, 11-8, for their ninth-consecutive and 12th overall Conference title. OU completed the regular season at 16-1 in league play and is 42-2 overall while OSU finished at 15-3 and holds a 40-8 record.

The Sooners earned the top seed and the Cowgirls wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Softball Championship, which will be contested May 14-15 at USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City. The other four seeds are No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Baylor, No. 5 Iowa State and No. 6 Texas Tech.

The Championship format will consist of pool play on Friday, May 14 with a total of six games utilizing both Integris and OGE Energy fields. Two games will be played simultaneously at both 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. CT. Single contests are scheduled on OGE Energy Field at 5 and 7:30 p.m. CT. The opening game on OGE Energy Field will be televised on ESPNU with the others available on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. 

Saturday’s final round will feature the third-place (Integris) and second-place (OGE Energy) contests both taking place at 10:30 a.m. CT with each on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. The title game will be played at 3 p.m. CT on OGE Energy Field with an ESPN2 telecast. The winner will receive the Big 12’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Softball Championship.
