Flanagan qualifies for nationals in 10,000

WICHITA – Hutchinson Community College sophomore distance runner Teagan Flanagan posted the third-fastest time in the 10,000 meters this season on Friday at the Friends University Spring Open.

Flanagan qualified for his second NJCAA Outdoor championships event by winning the Friends 10,000 meters in a time of 32:14.44. Flanagan won the race by a staggering 2 minutes, 35 seconds.

Flanagan’s time ranked No. 3 in the NJCAA this season and is the fourth-fastest 10,000-meter time in Blue Dragon outdoor track and field history.

Flanagan was just a handful of Blue Dragon athletes to compete on Day 1 of the two-day event. The majority of the meet at Friends’ Adair Austin Stadium starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Heartland Timing will provide live results.

Other Blue Dragons to place in the Top 8 of an event on Friday are:

+ Matthew Schrag was sixth in the men’s 10,000 meters with a time of 37:29.51.

+ Delaney Cameron was fifth in the men’s 3,000-meter Steeplechase with a time of 10:43.65.

+ Kiana Brown placed second in the women’s pole vault, clearing 10 feet.

+ Noel Hidalgo was fourth in the women’s 3,000-meter Steeplechase with a time of 13:31.06, a PR for Hidalgo and the 14th-best time in the NJCAA this season.
