Hutch women third at Region VI preview

COLBY – Getting an early look at the Region VI Championship course on Saturday, the Hutchinson Community College women’s cross country team finished third in the Region VI Preview at Meadow Lake Golf Course in Colby.

Led by sophomore All-American Louise Cocking, the Blue Dragons finished with 82 team points. Colorado College won the team title with 42 points, edging Region VI foe Northwest Tech with 49 points.

Cocking posted her third Top 5 finish of the season and seventh of her career with a fifth-place performance in a time of 19:28.21. Cocking was the second-highest Region VI runner to finish behind Colby’s Regan Hogsden (19:25.79). Colorado College’s Elliot Singer won the women’s individual race with a time of 18:19.99.

Freshman Anastasia Mayer was the second Blue Dragon to place, crossing the finish line in 21:11.59 over the 5K course. Sophomore Noelle Higaldo placed 34th in 21:47.68. Freshman Michele Gage finished 38th in a time of 22:13.34. Freshman Sydney Grauer was 40th in a time of 22:24.05.

Sophomore Izzy Wheeler placed 44th in 23:01.67. Sophomore Jurney Yung placed 46th in 23:51.51.

The Blue Dragons will run in back-to-back weeks for the only time this season. Hutchinson travels to the Fort Hays State Tiger open next Saturday in Victoria, Kansas.
