HUTCHINSON, Kan. - Home cooking is pretty good for the Monarchs this year and that proved to be true again on Sunday night at Hobart-Detter field in Carey Park.  Hutchinson spotted the Great Bend Bat Cats a couple runs in the early innings but settled down and took a 8-6 victory  to capture their 17th win of the season.

Hutchinson (17-4) took advantage of the Bat Cats inability to find the plate in the bottom of the 5th as Great Bend walked 6 Monarchs and committed 2 errors that allowed the Monarchs to plate 6 runs in the inning.

Great Bend rallied back in the 7th inning but the Monarchs bull pen was too strong to allow another big inning for the Bat Cats.  Hunter Waugh gave up 1 run in the top of the ninth off a Trent Touchet home run.  Preston Snaveley earned the win going 6 innings giving up 2 runs on 2 hits and striking out 10.

Former HutchCC Blue Dragon Dylan Nedved was 3 for 5 at the plate with a RBI and scored a run to lead the Monarchs in hitting.  Hutch pounded out 8 hits on the night while the Bat Cats were held to 6 hits.

Both teams have today off before meeting each other in the final game of the 4 game series at Eck Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University Tuesday night in the 5 pm game.  Hutchinson has a 3-0 advantage in the series versus the Bat Cats this season.

Just a reminder that masks and social distancing are recommended at Eck Stadium.  The Sunflower Collegiate League will video stream the game on their YouTube channel.
