HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The AVCTL is considering attendance restrictions at athletic events, according to USD 308 Superintendent Mike Folks, who spoke to Hutchinson High Athletic Director Kevin Armstrong about it.
"There's conversations happening currently related to that," Folks said Tuesday. "Many of the school districts within the league are talking about it being a local decision. Based on the county you're in, based on the maximum number of fans you can have."
One event has already been changed for this year.
"Some are talking about not allowing visiting fans, only the home fans. Some are talking about 50% capacity" Folks said. "The other thing is hosting tournaments. I know Kevin said that we host a very large volleyball tournament in September with 14 schools. We have decided to split that into seven and seven. Seven of those schools are going to go to McPherson and play a pool."
KSHSAA, for its part, is leaving those decisions up to the schools and leagues to make.
